About
Over a decade of watching people train wrong.
I'm Anne McMillan — NASM-certified personal trainer, TRX certified, and a Berkeley native. Before this, I taught high school here in town at Berkeley High. I've spent fourteen years as a personal trainer and fitness instructor — studios, hot Pilates, yoga, one-on-one clients at every level. And the same thing kept happening. People were drowning in cues. Tuck this, squeeze that, ten rules per exercise, most of them slightly wrong.
Here's what over a decade taught me: there aren't dozens of things to learn. There are a few core patterns, and once you understand them, every exercise makes sense. People worry that bracing or extending is bad for them, when the real question is simpler — which direction is the load coming from, and are you stabilizing against it? That's it. That's most of fitness.
unlearn is what I've been building toward this whole time. Not another set of rules. Fewer rules, understood properly. Come train with me and I'll show you what I mean.
